Application and Admission
Prerequisites
Students pursuing a master's degree in speech-language pathology must have a bachelor's degree in communicative disorders or the equivalent undergraduate prerequisite courses, either from USU or another ASHA-accredited program. The Outreach Master's Degree Program in Speech-Language Pathology is available only to Utah residents.

All Applications must contain the following to be considered for admission:

- Names and email addresses for three individuals who will write you a letter of recommendation.
- (Part of the online graduate application) If you have attended school during the past year, at least two of your letters must come from professors or instructors who are acquainted with you and your academic work. If you have been out of school for a year or more, you may have your three letters of recommendation written by other professionals who may be more aware of your qualifications. These may include classroom teachers, other SLPs, research colleagues, TAs, etc. Letters should be as specific and detailed as possible. Download guidelines for letters of recommendation.
- Letter of Intent / Admissions Essay.
- Your letter of intent is part of your online graduate school application and should specifically reflect your educational and professional interests and qualifications. Detailed information about prior professional experience, research experience, teaching experience, related service, other degrees, etc., will help those evaluating your application to have a more detailed and accurate perception of your qualifications.
- Names and email addresses for three individuals who will write you a letter of recommendation.

Admission Requirements
Potential students should note that all of the following factors are considered when accepting students for the outreach program. Accepted students exhibit a balanced application that demonstrates strengths in all areas.
- GPA: 3.0 or better for last 60 graded credits (does not include pass/fail credits).
- A bachelor's degree in communicative disorders (Students already having a bachelor's degree in another area must either complete a second bachelor's degree in Communicative Disorders or take the undergraduate Communicative Disorders courses as post-bachelor's courses.)
- GRE scores: Verbal and Quantitative Score in the 40th percentile or better.
- Additional factors, including: attitude, work ethic, clinical and scholarly achievements, professional leadership aptitude, and personal integrity. Top ranking students may be asked to interview with the admissions committee.
- Application: Applications will be considered once a year between March 1 and March 15. However, students must have completed the application process to the School of Graduate Studies by February 1. No application will be considered until all the required information is submitted to the School of Graduate Studies.
Application
Applications will be considered once a year and students will be notified of acceptance in mid-March. Applications must be complete by February 1st to be considered. Late applications will not be considered. All applications are processed through the School of Graduate Studies at Utah State University before they are passed on to us; therefore, it is through them that you must apply. Allow 3 weeks for the School of Graduate Studies to process your application. Please plan ahead so that all application components will be received by the graduate school and by COMD by the deadline.
